About the Commission The Legal Aid Commission provides a variety of legal services for the people of New South Wales. We are the largest legal aid agency in Australia. The Commission is established under the Legal Aid Commission Act, 1979 of NSW and is statutorily independent of Government. Our goal is to assist socially and economically disadvantaged people to understand and protect their rights, as the justice system is not accessible to everybody. The Commission provides legal representation in many areas of law and free legal advice and minor assistance at our Haymarket Office in the Sydney CBD and regional offices. We provide specialist services and advice clinics located in various metropolitan and country centres and other important services that aim to avoid court disputes, such as alternative dispute resolution and community legal education programs. The Commission has a number of career opportunities that span: - legal practitioner positions within our three main legal practice areas: Criminal, Family and Civil
- administrative, corporate, legal and core business support functions
- social work
- legal reform and policy
