Panels & Practitioners At Legal Aid NSW we are striving to improve the delivery of legal aid services to the community. A significant part of this service is being able to work in partnership with private practitioners who work on behalf of legally assisted clients. Panels are being progressively implemented across a number of practice areas (see Current and Future Panels). On appointment to a Panel (see The Panels Process) practitioners sign a service agreement and agree to practice standards and audit arrangements. Legal aid work is then assigned to practitioners appointed to a Panel. (see the Grants Allocation Guidelines) The Benefits Panels will strengthen our relationship with the private profession by ensuring transparency in the assignment process and agreement on the terms on which the relationship is conducted.
Panels will also provide: - fair and reasonable distribution of work to private legal practitioners (see the Grants Allocation Guidelines)
- access to training and information sharing co-ordinated by Legal Aid NSW
- processes for quality control and risk management
In Consultation
For each panel documents are developed to formalise the relationship between Legal Aid NSW and private practitioners in consultation with the Law Society of New South Wales and the New South Wales Bar Association. Panel documents include Information for Applicants, a service provision agreement and practice standards.
