Workplace adjustments

A workplace adjustment is a change to a work practice, equipment or work environment. Workplace adjustments support people, particularly those with a disability, to:

  • perform at their best
  • work productively
  • work in a safe environment
  • feel included, and
  • feel engaged and motivated to improve their performance.

We work with JobAccess to obtain funding for workplace adjustments through their Employee Assistance Fund (EAF) scheme (where staff meet the eligibility criteria).

Careers for people with disability, neurodivergence and carers

  • workplace adjustments for people with disability, neurodivergence or injury
  • our Disability and Carer network
  • a supportive and inclusive culture that values neurodiversity, and
  • our Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2024–2028 outlines our commitment to accessibility and inclusion.

Through these memberships, our people have access to training, resources and professional development opportunities including:

University students with disability (including mental health or chronic health condition) complete a minimum of 152 hours of paid work.

Students with a disability must be registered with Australian Disability Network to be considered for the internship program.

Legal Aid staff volunteer to participate in this program which promotes education, awareness, and disability confidence across the organisation. This in turn contributes to a more supportive and inclusive workplace.

The program involves the mentors meeting with their mentees (jobseekers with a disability who are participating in the program) between six to eight times over a 16-week period.
