Assisting flood victims across the State

Legal Aid lawyers have been assisting flood-affected residents in areas of the State devastated by unprecedented rainfall. In many instances, they have worked through the weekend, providing on-the-spot legal advice at disaster recovery centres.

The centres are a "one stop shop" for residents affected by the floods so that they can get information from services and organisations that may be able to assist them.

More than 230 flood-affected residents across the Riverina region have taken advantage of free legal help provided by our civil lawyers. We have been assisting affected residents with flood insurance claims, rejected claims, credit commitments as well as tenancy, employment and social security issues.

Similar recovery centres were set up in Griffith and Moree.

Legal Aid NSW is doing a letterbox drop of postcards to the worst flood affected areas in the Riverina to let residents know that legal help is available.
