Legal Aid NSW services over the 2017/18 Christmas and New Year holiday period

Legal Aid NSW offices will be closed from 25 December 2017 to 5 January 2018 and reopen on 8 January 2018.

However, we have the following arrangements in place to ensure our clients receive essential services:

  • Telephone and face-to-face legal advice and duty representation in urgent matters - including urgent family law matters - will be provided at our Central Sydney office (323 Castlereagh Street, Haymarket), except on public holidays. Ph: 02 9219 5000
  • LawAccess NSW – a free government telephone service that provides legal information - will be open during this time as usual Mon – Fri 9am-5pm, except for public holidays. Ph: 1300 888 529
  • The Children's Legal Service Youth Hotline will continue to be available during the Christmas and New Year’s holiday period. The service is available from 9am-midnight on weekdays. The Youth Hotline also provides a 24- hour service on Saturdays, Sundays and all public holidays. Ph: 1800 10 18 10
  • Legal Aid NSW's Domestic Violence Unit will also be open to assist clients on 02 9219 6300. However, clients in an emergency should call NSW Police on 000; and clients requiring urgent family law assistance should call the Central Sydney office on 02 9219 5000 (except on public holidays).
  • The Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service line is open over this period, except on public holidays. Ph: 1800 WDVCAS or 1800 938 227
  • Legal Aid NSW will provide duty services in this period at the Bail Courts at Parramatta (Local and Children's Courts), Local Courts at regional locations where an authorised justice is available, the Drug Court, and the Care Court at Parramatta.
