Social media community guidelines

Creating a safe and supportive online space.

Our goal

These guidelines apply to those visiting and interacting with Legal Aid NSW’s social media platforms:

Our goal is to create an online space where people feel safe to ask questions and share experiences, learn about the law and find legal support when they need it. We need to ensure the legal information we share is easy to understand and helps to foster positive community engagement and conversations.

We encourage contributions and respectful conversations on our social media channels but need these spaces to be welcoming, inclusive, and helpful for everyone. Therefore, the following guidelines should be met.

Guidelines

  1. Keep all commentary respectful. Share your thoughts and experiences in a way that adds value to the conversation.
  2. Be kind and considerate. Treat others with kindness and keep things friendly and welcoming.

Posts may be deleted or the comments section switched off if we consider them to be:

  1. Abusive, offensive or unlawful: Harassment, disruptive, bullying or provoking other community members, swearing, derogatory language and expression of views that are racist, sexist, homophobic, predatory or sexually explicit are not acceptable.
  2. Potentially defamatory.
  3. Political in nature: While we welcome the discussion of policies and initiatives, it is not the place to discuss political parties and personalities. As a public service agency, we're apolitical and unable to respond to political commentary.
  4. Misleading or misinformation: Information that is false, unfounded or misleading, whether intentional or not, will be removed.
  5. An infringement of intellectual property rights: Respect and acknowledge original creators when sharing content.
  6. Promotional: We do not accept advertisements, requests to endorse commercial products or services or soliciting donations.
  7. Spam or harmful: Copied and pasted, duplicated or off-topic posts will be removed. We do not tolerate posts containing links to harmful or suspicious websites or applications.
  8. A breach of privacy: Private information (such as personal details, emails or phone numbers) of Legal Aid NSW staff, customers or partners. For more information, view our privacy policy.

Feedback is welcome

We won’t delete comments just because they are critical of Legal Aid NSW, our services or the legal issues we post about. We value feedback and see it as an opportunity to improve but encourage you to share your thoughts and feedback with us in a constructive way.

Blocking users

We may block users who commit serious violations or have a pattern of breaching our community guidelines. This helps us protect our community and keep conversations helpful.
