Our actions

1: High quality, targeted services that meet our clients’ needs

a) Design a high-level end to end service model and resolve foundational questions about purpose and priority

b) Determine Legal Aid NSW priority client groups

c) Design a detailed plan for client pathways and channels, and commence implementation

d) Design and test a client triage model

e) Develop a new Legal Aid NSW advice framework

f) Progress work on our service model for priority client groups, especially prisoners and Aboriginal people

g) Commence implementation of the Aboriginal Client Service Strategy

h) Review the Contributions Policy and implement changes

i) Evaluate specialist services and draw together learnings about what works for vulnerable clients

j) Review all office leases, local population needs, and forecasted growth around NSW and design a future plan for the location of offices

k) Identify the components of a framework to support and promote the delivery of quality legal aid services by private legal practitioners

l) Design and implement a resource allocation model for crime

m) Conduct a review of legal fees paid by Legal Aid NSW

a) Work with our legal assistance sector partners to develop an agreed framework for collaborative service planning

b) Adopt and embed a streamlined framework for key strategic partnerships

c) Review the outcomes of first year of framework

3: Our work improves the legal and justice systems

a) Implement an agenda for strategic law reform, policy reform and operational reform to the legal and justice sector and assess its impact

b) Implement a community reputation strategy for Legal Aid NSW to communicate the value of the work we do, and improve engagement scores

4: A highly capable workforce that is flexible, developed and equipped

a) Implement a wellbeing program that covers WHS obligations, a flexible workplace framework, a mentally healthy workplace and the engAge program

b) Recognise and celebrate workforce culture

c) Deliver a Strategic Workforce Framework which will guide and prioritise planning, and commence workforce planning in key areas

d) Prepare a business case for a staff management system to allow for workforce analysis

e) Build a workforce data analytic framework and system to ensure business receives advice and support to determine workforce projections and composition

f) Pilot more efficient and effective arrangements for managing regional offices

g) Define organisational reporting lines

h) Design and implement streamlined recruitment practices from a centralised recruitment function

i) Develop career and learning pathways to support the ongoing development of all staff

j) Implement agreed recommendations from the Admin Transformation project

k) Develop best practice guidelines and workforce planning for admin staff

5: Business processes that are responsive to our business needs

a) Develop a framework for using data to make organisational and service planning decisions, and to forecast demand and cost

b) Develop and implement KPIs to improve corporate services, and implement quarterly performance reviews

c) Develop and implement a feedback framework to collect, analyse and respond to feedback from staff about their experience with corporate services

d) Implement a new structure and model for ICT and Human Resources

e) Implement the prioritised recommendations from the Grants Efficiency Review

f) Complete the initial implementation of the new client case management system

g) Implement the SAP HR software system

h) Implement agreed initiatives from the ICT Strategy

i) Develop a proposed knowledge management framework for Legal Aid NSW

j) Develop a new intranet design for Legal Aid NSW

*We will work with our partners on implementing all aspects of this Plan where relevant.
