New app provides easy access to free legal information

19 Aug 2014

Visit the App store to download the new Legal Aid NSW app.

An app that allows iPhone and iPad users to connect easily to key parts of the Legal Aid NSW website is available now. (Note - the link works on Apple mobile devices).

"We know that people are spending less time on desktops and more time on mobile devices," says the CEO of Legal Aid NSW, Bill Grant. "By using this app, people will have a handy gateway to a range of useful information."

People will be able to search for a Legal Aid NSW service closest to them, watch videos about the law, book into a workshop about the law and directly access our factsheets and resources.

They will be able to find out about how to get a grant of legal aid and what to do if they are not eligible for a grant of aid. And they will be able to pay their contribution towards the legal costs of their case.

Many people are simply not aware of the different ways that Legal Aid NSW can assist them but this app provides a very clear picture," said Mr Grant.

The app also features a dedicated section for lawyers and community workers where they can search for a private lawyer who undertakes legal aid work and easily access Legal Aid NSW policies.

The latest Legal Aid NSW activities, programs and developments will be at their fingertips through Legal Aid News and social media.

The new app will be particularly useful to people in regional areas. "It will help Legal Aid NSW to increase its reach, and make sure people – no matter where they live in New South Wales – can find out about our legal services and resources," Mr Grant said.

For example, Legal Aid NSW lawyers provide regular free legal advice clinics in 194 different locations around the State. The app will quickly locate the closest and most convenient one.

"Everyone should have equal access to information about their legal rights and entitlements," Mr Grant said. "This app is a good way of making sure that happens."
