Reporting Abuse in Defence Scheme will close on 30 June 2022

10 Jun 2022

The Commonwealth Ombudsman/Defence Force Ombudsman (DFO) Reporting Abuse in Defence scheme ends on 30 June 2022.

The scheme provides an opportunity for people who have experienced abuse while serving in Australia’s Defence forces to report their experience to the Ombudsman and possibly seek reparation or apology. The scheme applies to events that occurred while you were serving before 30 June 2014. 'Abuse' can be many things, including sexual assault, physical assault, threats of violence, humiliation.

The closing date to tell DFO in writing if you intend to make a report of abuse is 30 June 2022.

If you do not make an application or do not send the notice of intending to do so by that date, you cannot apply later.

Information can be found at the DFO website. You can also notify the DFO that you intend to lodge a report. If you send that written notification, you then have until 30 June 2023 to make the actual application.

You may already have made a report to DFO. If you have not, and you would like advice and support in doing so, please contact us as soon as possible:
