Chapter:8. Types of Grants of Aid


8.1. Introduction

These are the guidelines to the types of Grants of Aid policy. The guidelines provide guidance on how the policies are to be applied by setting out certain requirements which need to be observed when for example, Legal Aid NSW approves an emergency grant of legal aid.

The Legal Aid Commission of New South Wales is referred to as ‘Legal Aid NSW in these guidelines.




8.2. Guideline for emergency grants of aid

8.2.1 Procedures for approving emergency grants to private practitioners

Legal Aid NSW staff must tell the private legal practitioner at the time of the emergency grant

Legal Aid NSW staff must send the private solicitor a letter confirming the emergency grant, including all the information set out in the previous paragraph.

Legal Aid NSW staff must send the legally assisted person


8.2.2 Who can authorise an emergency grant

The following Legal Aid NSW officers can authorise an emergency grant of legal aid.
