Who are we?

We are the Prisoners Legal Service (PLS), a specialist service of Legal Aid NSW.

Our service is free and confidential.

How can we help?

We can represent you at:

  • hearings at the State Parole Authority
  • life sentence determinations
  • segregation appeals
  • visiting magistrate hearings

We also visit and give free advice and minor assistance in matters like:

  • bail
  • legal aid
  • appeals
  • parole
  • classification and other prison issues

In civil law matters like:

  • fines
  • debt
  • housing
  • victims compensation
  • personal injury

In family law areas like:

  • care and protection
  • property
  • children's issues
  • child support
  • divorce

How to book an appointment

Every gaol keeps Prisoners Legal Service appointments in a "Legal Aid book". To get an appointment, contact the Prisoners Legal Service (see details below) or ask your wing officer, area manager or welfare officer to put your name in this book.

Prisoners can contact the Prisoners Legal Service on the Common Auto Dial List (CADL) as a free call - just press 11# (Legal Aid) and ask for PLS.

Friends and family of prisoners can contact the Prisoners Legal Service on 02 8688 3888.
