Raindrops and Dreams

A resource for children about family violence.

About the book

Our picture book Raindrops and Dreams helps parents and workers talk to children about family violence and shows kids that things can get better.

The book tells the story of Bubbles, a young crocodile, and his family – as well as the support workers and community who help them after they experience family violence.

Raindrops and Dreams was created by Legal Aid NSW caseworker Katrina Tsaftaropoulos and Legal Aid NSW financial counsellor Marina Wilkinson. They have many years of experience helping families who have been through family violence.

How to use the book

Raindrops and Dreams reflects children's experiences of family violence. It helps children talk about these experiences with trusted adults, start healing and break the cycle of violence.

The book includes a glossary that explains symbols in the pictures. Parents and workers can use this glossary to talk about the story while reading it together.

Content warning

Raindrops and Dreams talks about family violence in clear language. It also explains how a family and their community respond.

We recommend parents read the book before sharing it with children.
