Common questions about WDOs

  1. Do you have unpaid fines?
View the brochure "Work and Development Orders - Help for people who can't pay their fines".
  2. How do I find a WDO sponsor?

There are a number of ways you can find a WDO sponsor:

    • Search the list of approved WDO organisations by region on the State Debt Recovery website.
    • Call the State Debt Recovery WDO Hotline on 1300 478 879 (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm).
    • An organisation or health practitioner you are working with might already be approved – ask them. If they're not, we can help them sign up.
    • If you can't find a WDO sponsor listed in your area, we may be able to help. Call the Legal Aid NSW WDO Service in your area.
  3. Can I do a WDO in gaol?
Yes, but Correctional Centres have their own seperate eligibility criteria and approved activities which differ from the rest of the WDO Scheme. Please contact the relevant Correctional Centre and ask for the WDO Administrator.
  4. What are other ways to deal with fines?

Other ways to deal with unpaid fines include:

    • Paying by installments (Time-To-Pay), including having amounts deducted from Centrelink payments (CentrePay).
    • Asking for an extension of time.
    • Applying to have the fine written-off if you have serious financial, medical or domestic problems.

This can be done by visiting the State Debt Recovery website or contacting State Debt Recovery on 1300 655 805 (Monday to Friday 8.00am to 6.00pm).

Legal information about other ways to deal with fines can be found at Law Access NSW.
