Law for Community Sector Workers Criminal Justice System

We run free workshops for staff, volunteers and board/committee members of NSW community organisations.  

This workshop covers:

  • Overview of the criminal justice system in NSW for adults (18 years and above)
  • Basic principles of criminal law and legal representation
  • Supporting your client at court 
  • Where to get legal help 

This workshop is delivered by Legal Aid NSW lawyers with extensive experience in criminal law.

Registration is essential as places for this workshop are limited. 

 

Who should attend? 


  • Staff who have contact with people involved in the criminal justice system including those working in the alcohol and drug, family support and social welfare sectors.

Learning Outcomes 


By completing this workshop, participants will have information and tools to:

  • Explain the basic principles of criminal law
  • Describe criminal law procedures including arrest, search, questioning, bail, hearing and sentencing
  • List diversionary programs in NSW 
  • Describe how to support clients in the criminal justice system  
  • List legal referrals and resources in relation to criminal problems 

Duration

This is a half-day workshop of 3 hours duration.
