Annual Report 2024–25

Legal services that make an impact on the justice system.

About this report

Demand for legal aid in NSW is at a record high, with thousands of people seeking support as cost-of-living pressures continue to be felt across the state.

We’re responding, continuing our work supporting domestic violence survivors, tenants facing eviction, those managing complex legal matters in court, and many more people across NSW. Last financial year, we:

  • delivered 573,927 legal services – our highest figure in five years
  • provided 57,064 representation services, up 13% from last year, across family, criminal and civil law
  • improved access and understanding by providing accessible legal information on our website – relevant pages were viewed 3.51 million times, a 25% increase from last year.

We also supported:

  • the government’s implementation of key reforms to bail centralisation, servicing seven additional courts and providing 270,000 criminal law services in 2024–25
  • families experiencing domestic violence and separation, or who had child custody and care and protection issues – our family law services grew 8% year-on-year
  • the housing stability of 169 Aboriginal women in custody through our new Homeward Sisters program.

Protecting fundamental rights and supporting disadvantaged communities to be heard as part of legal processes is a crucial part of upholding the rule of law in NSW. Access to legal assistance helps avoid people becoming homeless, helps families in crisis and improves outcomes in both our justice system and the broader community.
