Employment laws protect you from unlawful discrimination, bullying, sexual harassment in the workplace. There are also rules about when and how your employer can end your employment.

Your employer must ensure your workplace is safe and that you receive fair wages, entitlements and superannuation. If you are injured at work, you may be eligible for workers compensation.

  • Upcoming changes to Employment Law

    Upcoming changes to Employment Law

    Between now and 2025, new workplace laws will come into effect. The changes will affect:

    • new rules for labour hire workers
    • new workplace delegates’ rights and protections
    • criminalising intentional wage underpayments
    • small business redundancy exemptions
    • compulsory conciliation conferences changes in protected action ballot matters
    • right of entry 
    • new discrimination protections
    • other workplace health and safety and workers compensation.

    The Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Closing Loopholes No.2) Act 2023 introduces further changes between now and 26 February 2025. The changes will affect:

    • casual employment
    • right to disconnect
    • Gig economy
    • Right of entry for underpayments
    • Intractable bargaining.
