How to get ongoing legal help

If you need a lawyer for ongoing legal help or to represent you in court and you don’t have enough money to pay, you may be able to get help from one of our Legal Aid NSW lawyers.

A Legal Aid NSW lawyer is a lawyer who works at Legal Aid NSW or who is paid by Legal Aid NSW to represent you in your case. We have some of the largest legal practices in NSW, and our lawyers are expert, dedicated professionals.

Our lawyers can support you with criminal matters involving the police, family matters involving children or a relationship breakdown, or civil matters where you are having trouble with a basic need like housing, income support or access to health and disability supports.

Eligibility for ongoing legal help depends on the type of legal issue you have and your personal circumstances.

A lawyer (either a Legal Aid NSW lawyer or a private lawyer) can submit an application for aid for you.
