Problems with a private training course

• Do you have a VET FEE-HELP debt for your course?
• Is the course unsuitable?
• Do you feel you were misled into signing up?
• Have you had trouble completing the course?

Some private training colleges have behaved in an unfair and misleading way to get students to enrol in their courses.

For example, their salesperson may have:

• approached you at your home, over the phone or in a public place; and
• told you things about the training or the cost of the course that were wrong or created a false impression; or
• not told you everything about the training (for example, how difficult it was, how much you would have to pay or that you would need to have internet connection).

You might owe a large debt to the government—called a ‘VET FEE-HELP loan’.

You may be able to do something about your VET FEE-HELP debt if the private college has acted unfairly.

Legal Aid NSW may be able to help you:

• get rid of the debt to the government; or
• make a complaint about your training provider or your course.
