Family Law Service for Aboriginal Communities

The Family Law Service for Aboriginal Communities (FamAC) is a state-based, Aboriginal led service made up of lawyers, Aboriginal Field Officers and mental health caseworkers, who are dedicated to assisting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and children in family law and care and protection matters.

The FamAC team provides advice, early intervention support, outreach and casework litigation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and children currently involved in or at risk of being involved in family law or care and protection proceedings.

Where does FamAC go

The team travel to regional and remote Aboriginal communities throughout New South Wales to provide legal and non-legal services to locations including North Western and Western New South Wales, Northern Rivers, Mid North Coast, and the Far South Coast.

FamAC can assist with:

  • seeing your kids
  • problems with the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ)
  • getting your kids back
  • caring for kids within your family
  • domestic and family violence
  • child support
  • getting a divorce
  • sorting out property after separation
  • problems with school attendance.

FamAC works closely with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, Aboriginal Medical Services and other community organisations.
