Fines and WDO Service

Legal Aid NSW statewide specialist service.

The WDO Service provides specialist fines advice, assistance and representation services to eligible people with unpaid fines.

We can provide free legal advice for people with unpaid fines.

We can:

  • Assist people in financial hardship to apply for an internal review, WDO placement or payment plan.
  • Support people in financial hardship and exceptional circumstances to make a write off application.
  • Provide fines advice and training to service providers interested in joining the WDO scheme.
  • support WDO sponsors to deliver the WDOs by providing training for organisations and develop WDO resources.

The Fines and WDO Service and Aboriginal Legal Service NSW/ACT Legal Aid NSW help run the WDO scheme in partnership with Revenue NSW and the Department of Communities and Justice.

The Department of Communities and Justice manages the WDO scheme including overseeing the WDO Guidelines and Audits.

Revenue NSW manages unpaid fines in NSW, approve WDOs, process new WDO sponsor applications, manage the online Self Service Portal & Self Service Portal Guide.

Aboriginal Legal Service NSW/ACT promotes the WDO scheme to ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander can access help for unpaid fines.

The WDO Service has six teams across NSW.  We promote access to WDOs, provide training for organisations, develop WDO resources and provide a specialist service for clients with unpaid fines.
