Summary Crime Part 1 training module

This module is the first part of a two-part series on Summary Crime. It provides participants with fundamental skills for practise in the summary jurisdiction of the Local Court.

Overview

This training module contains information about Local Court bail matters, sentence matters, hearings and section 32 and 33 diversions.

Participants will be equipped with knowledge on where to find and apply Legal Aid NSW eligibility policies and guidelines in Criminal Law matters.

Learning outcomes

By completing this training module, participants will:

  1. Develop skills to discern and apply Legal Aid NSW eligibility policies and guidelines and factors which influence a client’s eligibility for criminal law assistance.
  2. Understand fundamental concepts relating to bail, sentencing and hearings in the Local Court.
  3. Gain knowledge about the practical considerations relating to mental health related diversions in the Local Court.
  4. Develop confidence in relation to provision of criminal law services in the Local Court.
