Urgent Parenting Matters training module

Overview

Providing family lawyers with a framework for dealing with emergency parenting issues, this practical skills-based training module is presented by duty solicitors who regularly deal with emergency Recovery and Watchlist cases.

Sharing insider tips about drafting and urgent listings, as well as client and Court strategies, you will be equipped with the knowledge and resources to achieve meaningful outcomes where children may be at risk of harm.

Comprehensive guides and document templates are included to help you effectively represent vulnerable clients, whilst meeting your professional obligations and responsibilities.

Note: A basic level of familiarity with Family Law legislation and Court procedure is assumed. This is not an introductory training module.

Learning outcomes

In this training, participants will learn how to:

1. identify where a client requires an urgent Recovery Application or Airport Watchlist Application
2. understand how to seek an expedited grant of Aid in emergency circumstances
3. efficiently draft effective Court documents
4. prepare and represent clients in emergency Applications in Court, in person or electronically
5. liaise with the Federal Police, Court support services and Government entities to effect Orders, and
6. develop personalised client strategies to manage expectations and achieve realistic outcomes, and avoid making an Application prejudicial to your client’s overall case.
